Our founders, Kym and Tiffany Wimberly, have built a legacy in education that prioritizes the individual needs of each student. This philosophy has been seamlessly carried over to ACT Qualified Driving Academy.
Here, we believe in a personalized, student-centered approach to learning, empowering our students to become responsible drivers who understand the importance of safety and courtesy on the road.
At ACT Qualified Driving Academy, we believe that a well-prepared driver is a safe driver. When it comes to preventing accidents, most of us focus on how not to hit the car in front. However, what about preventing the car behind from hitting us? Here are some key strategies to help prevent being rear-ended.
Maintain Consistent Speed
Avoid sudden stops and rapid speed changes, as these can surprise drivers behind you. Always try to maintain a steady speed in line with the flow of traffic without exceeding the speed limit.
Use Your Brake Lights Wisely
Your brake lights are a signal to the driver behind that you’re slowing down or stopping. Don’t hesitate to tap your brakes a couple of times before actually slowing down, especially if you sense that the driver behind isn’t paying attention. This action will cause your brake lights to flash, serving as an additional warning.
Make Predictable Moves
Unexpected moves can lead to accidents. If you need to change lanes, turn, or stop, signal well in advance to give the drivers behind you ample time to react.
Keep Your Vehicle Visible
In fog, rain, or other low-visibility conditions, make sure to use your lights so other drivers can see you. It’s not just about seeing other cars; it’s also about making sure you’re seen by others.
Check Your Mirrors
Keeping an eye on the traffic behind you can give you valuable extra seconds to react if a driver isn’t slowing down. If you see a vehicle approaching too fast, you might be able to move out of the way or take other evasive actions to avoid being hit.
Be Mindful of Intersections
Rear-end collisions often occur at traffic lights and stop signs. When you’re the first car at an intersection, leave a bit of space between you and the line. That way, if a car comes up too fast behind you, there’s room to move forward slightly to avoid a collision.
Maintain Your Vehicle
Ensure your brake lights and indicators are working correctly. A driver behind you relies on these signals to understand your actions. Regular maintenance checks are a small investment towards road safety.
Preventing accidents requires awareness, anticipation, and preparation. While we can’t control the actions of other drivers, we can adopt habits to reduce the chances of being involved in a rear-end collision. Stay vigilant and keep safety in mind with every journey you make.

My instructor Mrs. Suzette did an amazing job on teaching and making sure every student understood the material. I loved the atmosphere from this place the moment I stepped in. The staff at this academy were very helpful. I highly recommend this place to anybody looking to start their driving journey!
It was amazing. The day was broken up so we learned everything we needed to know while still having time for breaks and driving related activities. I have many classmates that have HATED drivers ED, but all things considered it was a really good experience. Mrs. Suzette is amazing by the way.
