The Louisiana Road Skills Test is the final step to earning your driver’s license, and ACT Qualified Driving Academy in Metairie, LA makes sure you’re ready to pass on your first try. As a DMV-approved third-party tester, we provide safe, dual-brake vehicles, certified examiners, and expert pre-test practice options so you can take your test with confidence.

Before Test Day – Be Prepared

☐ Book Your Test with ACT Qualified Driving Academy
☐ Confirm Your TIP Card or Learner’s Permit is valid
☐ Complete Your Behind-the-Wheel Lessons (practice the tested maneuvers)

We Provide the Vehicle

When you take your Road Skills Test with us, you’ll use our vehicle — equipped with:

  • Dual brakes for instructor control if needed

  • Dual mirrors for full visibility

  • Safety cameras to ensure accurate, fair testing

Bring These Items to Your Test

☐ Temporary Instruction Permit (TIP Card)
☐ $80 Test Fee (cash or card, as accepted)
☐ If you completed driver’s ed at another school: Completion Certificate from that school (must be presented with your TIP Card)

Core Maneuvers You’ll Be Tested On

☐ Right-of-Way Maneuvers – Knowing when to yield and when to proceed
☐ U-Turns – Executing safe and legal U-turns in designated areas
☐ Multiple Left and Right Turns – Proper lane use, signaling, and turning technique
☐ Smooth Lane Changes – Maintaining control and awareness during lane shifts
☐ Complete Stops – Coming to a full stop at stop signs and red lights
☐ Speed Control – Driving at appropriate speeds for conditions

Scoring

  • A minimum passing score is 80.

  • Points are deducted for errors such as incomplete stops, late signaling, or improper lane changes.

  • Certain actions result in automatic failure (see below).

Automatic Failures

❌ Running a red light
❌ Failing to stop at a stop sign
❌ Driving 5 mph or more over the posted speed limit
❌ Causing or being involved in an accident during the test
❌ Any action deemed dangerous by the examiner

Avoid These Common Mistakes

☐ Forgetting to check mirrors frequently
☐ Not using turn signals for lane changes or turns
☐ Driving too fast or too slow for conditions
☐ Failing to yield when required

Test Day Tips

☐ Arrive 15 minutes early to check in
☐ Breathe – nerves are normal, but stay focused
☐ Listen carefully to the examiner’s instructions
☐ Drive exactly like you practiced during lessons
